A true warrior is someone who has the courage to face his own fears.— Rickson Gracie
Biography
Rickson Gracie is widely considered the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter in history. Born on November 21, 1958, as the third son of Helio Gracie, Rickson demonstrated exceptional talent from childhood and became his father's chosen heir to carry the family fighting tradition. Rickson's fighting record is legendary—he claims over 400 victories in competition and challenge matches with zero losses. While the exact number is disputed, his dominance is unquestioned by everyone who witnessed him compete. He won the first two editions of the Japan Vale Tudo tournament (now Pride FC) in 1994 and 1995, submitting all opponents. Beyond his fighting prowess, Rickson is known for his philosophical approach to Jiu-Jitsu. He emphasizes connection, breathing, and invisible aspects of the art that go beyond technique. His documentary "Choke" (1999) provided unprecedented insight into his mental preparation and fighting philosophy. Rickson received his coral belt (7th degree) in 2017, and in 2021, the Gracie family awarded him the symbolic 9th degree red belt for his lifetime contributions to the art.
