Common Questions

Quick answers for BJJ parents

What should my child wear to class?

For Gi classes, students wear a complete BJJ gi (uniform). For No-Gi, athletic wear like rash guards and shorts. We'll help you get the right gear.

How often should my child train?

We recommend 2-3 classes per week for optimal development. Consistency matters more than frequency.

When can my child compete?

Competition is optional and typically recommended after 6+ months of training, depending on the child's readiness and interest.

How do belt promotions work?

Promotions are based on technique proficiency, attitude, and attendance. We hold formal promotion ceremonies quarterly.

Is martial arts safe for children with ADHD?

Yes! BJJ is often recommended for children with ADHD. The structured environment, physical activity, and focus on technique helps regulate attention and provides healthy energy outlets.

Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

No. BJJ teaches self-control and conflict resolution. Studies show children in martial arts are less likely to start fights and better at de-escalating confrontations.
